The Town Hall Pass
Your first question in any town is free — no pass, no account. When you want more than one, a pass unlocks the desk. Every pass includes unlimited search across every municipal code in the library.

How paying works
- Checkout runs on Stripe.
- Your card details go to Stripe, never to On the Books. The receipt Stripe sends is your proof of purchase.
- There is no account.
- A pass lives in the browser you bought it in, so buy it on the device you'll use. Clearing site data clears the pass; reply to your receipt and the desk will restore it.
- Outgrow a pass and the next one costs less.
- What you paid for the pass you hold comes off the price of a higher one at checkout, and the old pass folds into the new.
- Refunds.
- If a pass didn't work as described, reply to your Stripe receipt within 14 days and the desk will make it right. The details are in the terms.
- Need the library at scale?
- Bulk and institutional access — a feed, an extract, a watched set of towns — is arranged directly.
